What AIO is — and what it isn't

AIO is a generative answer module that appears above traditional search results for many but not all queries. Google selects which queries trigger AIO based on intent (informational, comparative, instructional are most likely) and complexity. Transactional and navigational queries usually stay AIO-free.

AIO is not a replacement for the search index — it sits on top of it. Pages must already rank top-10 organically to have any meaningful chance of AIO citation. Solid technical SEO remains the foundation.
